Peru: Copper, iron, zinc production continued growing in January

Copper output surged to 196,317 fine metric tons in January this year, up 24.79% from the same month the year before, Energy and Mines Ministry (MEM) reported on Wednesday.

According to a MEM’s statistical report, Apurimac region climbed to second place in the national copper production ranking, led by Arequipa.
“Apurimac’s significant growth is due to increased production in Las Bambas mine, which contributed 39,072 FMT to the region’s production last January,” MEM’s General Mining Bureau (DGM) informed.
It is worth saying that in less than a year of business operations, La Bambas moved up one place and became the second largest producer of copper, Peru’s main export product.
Iron and Zinc
MEM’s report states iron production was 741,373 FMT in January, up 6.46%.
On the other hand, zinc grew 11.34% (113,955 FMT), while tin saw an 18.08% expansion (1,404 FMT).
