Turkey and Royal Dutch Shell, signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in future gas exploration in Iraq, Kuwait News Agency reported, citing official statements from the Turkish Ministry of Energy in November.
According to the statement, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Mehmet Guler and Vice President of Shell Energy Europe Andrew Hepler signed a preliminary contract whereby two Turkish companies (Turkish Petroleum Corporation ‘TPAO’ and the state-owned Turkish Pipeline Corporation ‘BOTAS’ will explore and manage natural gas in Iraq with Shell Energy.
The agreement enables the transportation of natural gas to Turkey and Europe after it meets domestic demand in Iraq. It also allows the companies to carry out infrastructure projects, including the construction of pipelines, underground depots and interconnection lines, it said.
