UAE-based Maritime Industrial Services (MIS) held the official steel cutting ceremony last week for Hull 108, one of two offshore jack-up drilling rigs recently contracted to Mosvold Middle East Jackup (MEJU) in a contract worth US$ 335 million, thus marking the start of construction on its fifth new-build jack-up rig.
Hull 108 is another Friede and Goldman (F&G) Super Mod 2 design and is scheduled for delivery in March 2010. Steel cutting for Hull 106, the other rig being built for MEJU was held in late February, 2008 and the rig is scheduled for delivery in December 2009.
The steel cutting ceremony was attended by Mosvold representatives, officials from ABS Middle East and MIS senior management.
The SeaWolf Oritsetimeyin (Hull 104), the first offshore jack-up drilling rig built in the Middle East, is scheduled for delivery in September 2008.
