Emissions monitor set for Oman station

The Al Rusail Power Company SAOC of Oman selected Cogsys Limited to design, install and commission a Predictive Emissions Monitoring System (PEMS) for their 665MW natural-gas-fired open cycle plant.
Environmental permits for air pollution control from stationary sources, issued by the Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Regional Mu nicipalities and Environmental and Water Resources, require power stations to report emissions such as NO2, CO, CO2 and unburned hydrocarbons.
The Cogsys alert system is a calibrated predictive emissions monitoring system which allows for a robust and verifiable method of determining and reporting emissions. This is an essential tool to control and make sure that plants operate in a clean manner while minimizing their impacts to the environment.
The alert system was commissioned in March 2008 and will continuously calculate and record emissions for the eight gas turbines at Al Rusail.
Al Rusail Power Company SAOC is fully owned by SMN Power Holding Company Limited and was the first state-owned power generation company to be privatized in the Sultanate of Oman.
The plant is located 40-km west of Mu scat and primarily uses natural gas fuel however, as a backup diesel fuel oil is stored on site. Electricity is sold to the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC.
SMN Power Holding Company Limited is owned by entities of SUEZ Energy International, Mu badala Development Company and National Trading Company.
Cogsys Limited provides systems for the performance management, condition and emissions monitoring of critical rotating machinery, particularly gas turbine driven power generation and compression equipment.
