Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan said on Friday that that Central Asian Republic restarted its natural gas exports to Iran as of Friday morning, IRNA news agency reported.

Mohammad-Reza Forqani who was speaking to IRNA in Ashkhabad added, “During a meeting between the Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) and Turkmen President Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedev it was agreed that exports of Turkmen gas to Iran would restart.”

“The Turkmen president during the meeting welcomed broader cooperation between the two countries, asking also for greater cooperation between the two countries’ gas experts,” Forqani was quoted as saying.

Turkmenistan halted gas exports to Iran on December 29 last year, on excuse of technical difficulties, a time when Iran was going through its worst winter ever in past 30 years, the agency said.

The Turkmen gas export to Iran is transported via a 300-km gas pipeline, called the Korbach’che-Kordcouy Line in 1987.

The $195 million pipeline was designed and constructed by the Iranian Oil Industries Designing and Construction Company.

Turkmenistan 's Korbach'che gas field with its over 100 gas and oil wells, is currently used to provide gas and oil supplies for that country and for exports to Iran , Russia , and some other countries.
