Global Chemical Company LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of AlMansoori Specialized Engineering, has set plans for a new specialised chemical manufacturing facility in Abu Dhabi.
The company said it has entered into exclusive agreements with different international companies to have the manufacturing rights of several drilling chemicals of which the major products will be Sulphonated Asphalt which will be the initial product to be manufactured. The plant will be capable of producing 35 million pounds in weight of Sulphonated Asphalt per year. Production is scheduled to start around August 2008.
Covering 30,000 square metres, with the cost of approximately $20 million, the multipurpose facility has been planned and developed by industry experts. The manufacturing plant will be supplemented with substantial storage facilities for all the company’s raw materials and products.
Sulphonated Asphalt, which will be sold under the name Global Chemical CORT Sas, is widely used in the oil and gas sector to drill wells where shales can create problems. The product has enabled the successful drilling and placement of lengthy horizontal laterals in depths of up to 35,000 feet due to the reduction in torque, drag, inhibition of shales and lowering of fluid loss at high reservoir temperatures.
Adel Baobaid, director of Global Chemical Company, said: “We look forward to serving the many oil and gas companies in the region. With more than 200 rigs in close proximity, the plant will be of great importance to the area.” |
