Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has selected GE compressors for the new Oil and Gas Gathering Center 24 (GC24) in Kuwait’s Sabriya field, the company said.
GE will supply two electric motor-driven centrifugal compressors for the project, which is part of KOC’s development plan for northern Kuwait.
“For this project, a compressor may be required to handle gases of widely varying composition and quality,” said Mohammad Ayoub, operations leader and region general manager – Middle East for GE Oil & Gas. “We worked closely with the Kuwait Oil Company to identify their specific project needs and to develop an optimized solution.”
The centrifugal compressors will be manufactured at GE Oil & Gas facilities in Le Creusot France and will be shipped to Kuwait in December of 2008. These will be four-stage barrel-type compressors, driven by 560 KW electrical motors.
The GC24 is being built by SK Engineering & Construction Co of South Korea and is scheduled to begin commercial operation by September of 2010.
GE has been active in Kuwait’s oil industry since the 1970s, supplying equipment and services for oil and gas fields throughout the region.
The state-run KOC is one of the largest oil companies in the world. The company is involved in a wide range of activities related to oil and its sub-products, such as gasoline and petrochemicals. |
