Qatargas celebrated the arrival of its first Q-Flex vessel to Japan at Tohoku Electric Power Co.'s terminal in northern Japan.
The Al Gattara left Doha on December 3rd, completed her maiden cargo voyage without incident and arrived on time at the terminal in Japan , the company has announced Thursday.
Ahmed Al Khulaifi, Chief Operating Officer - Commercial & Shipping said: “The new fleet of Q-Flex vessels were designed to allow Qatargas to safely and reliably meet the needs of our customers by shipping larger quantities of liquefied natural gas (LNG) around the world more efficiently than ever before.”
These new state-of-the-art vessels have onboard liquefaction capacity and about 40% lower energy requirements and carbon emissions than conventional vessels due to the economies of scale created by their size and efficiency of the engines.
The Al Gattara is owned by Qatar Gas Transport Company Ltd. (Nakilat) and OSG International Inc. and is chartered by Qatargas on a long-term agreement.
Muhammad Ghannam, Managing Director of Nakilat said: “The Al Gattara is the first Q-Flex vessel to be used to deliver LNG to a customer. The program for additional ships being delivered to Qatargas is currently under development.” |
