Furmanite, the technical services company geared to maximising asset uptime, has been awarded a three year leak sealing contract by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), which will see Furmanite provide its on-line pressurised leak sealing services to the petrochemical complex in Sitra, Bahrain on a 24/7 call-out basis.

The contract follows the opening of Furmanite’s Middle East office in Bahrain , enabling the company to provide the on-the-ground expertise and technology and 24/7 rapid response that is needed.

Furmanite’s pressurised leak-sealing service enables leaks to be sealed on-line, avoiding unscheduled shutdown, and will help GPIC to keep its assets operating and earning efficiently. Furmanite pioneered on-line leak sealing technology and deploys a wide range of techniques and technologies using the latest designs, materials and compounds, to seal steam, water, hydrocarbons, gas and chemical leaks, at temperatures from sub-zero to 600°C and pressures to 350 barg.

With its recently established Bahrain office, Furmanite can now offer its services with the full assurance of its quality and safety standards. The company, which is ISO9002 accredited, now has fully qualified and experienced technicians (all Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel [SQEP] who have been comprehensively trained at its UK head office including practical experience in the field) based locally in the country, and all work is carried out in full accordance with Furmanite’s rigorous assessments and procedures, and with the support of its UK engineering resource and health and safety department. This was an important factor to GPIC, which places high importance on the safety of its operations, for which it has received international awards.

Furmanite overseas manager Paul Smith commented: “We are delighted to have secured this leak sealing contract for GPIC. This is representative of the level of service we are able to offer, and long term agreements such as this are one of the ways in which operators can gain maximum benefit from Furmanite’s technologies and expertise.”

The GPIC petrochemical complex houses industrial plants producing 1,200 tons a day of methanol, 1,200 tons per day ammonia, and 1,700 per day granulated urea.
