Oil and gas professionals outside the Middle East now have the chance to experience a night of glamour and glitter specifically prepared for energy sector.
Beginning this year, the Oil Barons Ball will also be celebrated in Europe . The ball, which has graced Dubai for the last four years, will further tour other energy capitals in the upcoming years.
First in line is the Oil Barons Ball Aberdeen. The move is collaboration with Aberdeen Journals, a leading Scottish newspaper publisher which serves the North Sea oil industry hub, and Reflex Publishing Middle East, which produces Pipeline and Future Fuels magazines.
The Oil Barons Ball Aberdeen will take place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Saturday, August 18. The Middle East Oil Barons Ball will be held on November 16 in Dubai.
“ Aberdeen is Europe ’s oil and gas capital and the fact that Offshore Europe is also to be held in Scotland makes it a perfect place,” says Eileen Michael, Publisher of Reflex Publishing and director of Reflex Events, organisers of the ball.
“Our main aim is to let the rest of the energy sector share in the success and growth of the ball,” she said. “We believe that events like this form strong ties between oil producing countries and gives an opportunity for different industry professionals from across the globe to come together in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
“The Oil Barons Ball in Dubai has grown into a major social event in the energy sector here in the Middle East and we plan to bring this to various energy capitals in the world. Plans are already under way for two more balls in 2008 and 2009.”
More than 1,400 industry leaders are expected to attend the gala evening that features a Motown extravaganza. Viscount Oliver’s Legendary Four Tops band and The Drifters are set to regale audiences with their blend of pure vocal power and sweet harmonies.
The highlight of the evening will be the crowing of the European Oil Baron, who will be selected via a peer voting programme on the websites of Pipeline, Aberdeen Journals and its supplement, Energy.
The ball has been given the thumbs up by Petrofac , QServ and Marathon , gold silver and bronze sponsors in that order. BMI is the flight sponsor while the Holiday Inn and the Marcliffe are hotel sponsors.
