BJ Process and Pipeline Services said it has completed a contract for Shell Philippines Exploration to provide a range of process and pipeline services for the Malampaya Gas-to-Power Project. The Malampaya Project is located in the Malampaya Field offshore Philippines .
BJ PPS personnel carried out safety testing and maintenance services, including nitrogen leak detection, nitrogen purging and flushing, and a full programme of joint integrity management procedures. Nitrogen purging ensures that the platform is in a safe condition so critical maintenance and repair services can be carried out on the pipeline following a scheduled shutdown. Following completion of the maintenance programme, the BJ PPS team performed a series of nitrogen leak detection tests to ensure a safe, leak-free start-up.
“We used a process called ‘Flawless Start-up’ during the preparation phase of the shutdown. This allows us to identify any potential ‘flaws’ that can hamper a trouble-free start-up after all of the maintenance work has been completed. BJ PPS joint integrity management and nitrogen/helium leak testing ensured that we had a leak free start-up,” said Gerry Linklater, shutdown manager for Shell Philippines Exploration.
The recent work further solidifies the successful ongoing relationship that BJ Services shares with Shell Philippines Exploration B.V. During the past six years, BJ PPS delivered periodic inspection and maintenance services for the Malampaya Project, including two recent gel operations to remove condensate from FSO flowlines. In 2001, BJ PPS successfully carried out a comprehensive range of commissioning services on the Malampaya onshore gas plant located in Batangas for Foster Wheeler on behalf of SPEX.
The contract was carried out by BJ PPS from its operations base in Singapore .
“SPEX and its Malampaya Gas-to-Power Project are extremely important to us in Asia Pacific,” said Lindsay Link, general manager of BJ PPS. “We are acutely aware of Shell’s desire to protect the environment and operate at the highest levels of safety. Bearing this in mind, we use the most advanced technologies to carry out these critical tests. I am pleased to report that the operation was a success,” he added. |
