Qatar Shell GTL Limited has awarded the design-build contract for the Pearl GTL complex effluent treatment plant to a consortium formed from a 50-50 joint venture between Veolia Water; and Saipem and a local construction company, Al Jaber.
Optimising management of the water cycle with an objective of zero liquid discharge into the natural environment is a major aspect of the Pearl GTL project.
The plant will be dedicated to the treatment and recycling of industrial effluents from this massive industrial complex.
Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies will drive the design and completion of the effluent treatment plants supported by patented technologies from its subsidiaries OTV, HPD, Rossmark and Veolia Water STI, offering a unique portfolio of processes.
In particular, wastewater will be treated by ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis, with the objective of their complete reuse within the factory process.
Thus, no liquid effluent will be discharged into the natural environment. Sludge treatment will be carried out by evaporation and crystallisation, a technology achieving low volumes of de-watered sludge and salt crystals.
"The Pearl GTL contract, based on Veolia Water's expertise in the recycling of industrial effluents, represents the most important design-build contract won by Veolia Water in the Middle East since the seawater desalination plant in Bahrain in April 2006,ˇ Antoine Frérot, Managing Director of Veolia Water, said.
´This new contract confirms the company's position as a supplier of technological solutions for the long term management of water resources through using alternative resources." |
