Saudi Aramco has signed two contracts for development of its 1.2 million barrel-per-day Khurais Increment Programme.

The Khurais crude contract went to Snamprogetti ( Italy ) and the Khurais gas contract was signed with a consortium consisting of Hyundai Engineering and Construction and Foster-Wheeler Energy, Ltd.

The Khurais Increment Program is the largest crude increment undertaken in Saudi Aramco's history, and is one of the largest industrial projects being executed in the world today. The programme is slated for completion by mid-2009.

"The Khurais Increment Programme is an essential element of Saudi Aramco's overall strategy to meet the energy needs of the world," said Ali Al-Ajmi, Saudi Aramco Vice President of Project Management. "Managing mega-projects like Khurais has become one of Saudi Aramco's core competencies, and combined with the expertise of Snamprogetti and Hyundai Engineering & Construction/Foster-Wheeler, I anticipate we will complete this project on time, and with an excellent safety record."

The Khurais crude contract awarded to Snamprogetti involves construction of inlet and outlet facilities to receive wet and sour crude through upstream trunklines, and calls for construction of four identical crude processing and gas compression trains.

The Khurais gas contract includes construction of two gas conditioning trains, crude and NGL storage facilities, product shipping facilities, as well as construction of flares.

All related support facilities, such as roads, ponds, buildings, electrical systems and process control systems are also to be provided under these contracts.
