The PWC Logistics owned Metal & Recycling Company (MRC) partnering with US based Lewis & Lambert Company was recently awarded a three year contract by the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) worth $ 5 million.
As per the contract, MRC and Lewis & Lambert will be responsible for cleaning oil lakes in different oil fields around Kuwait . The first phase of the project will be initiated at the Burgan oil field where the two companies will utilize their expertise in separating oil from water, sand, and other impurities recovered from the oil lakes.
Kuwait 's oil lakes, which were created during the 1991 Arabian Gulf War, have become an unwanted part of Kuwait 's desert. The sand and gravel on the land's surface combined with oil and soot to form a layer of hardened tarcrete over almost 5 percent of the country's area. Besides affecting the oceans and atmosphere, this has a severe impact on Kuwait 's environment and wild life.
Khaled Al Mutawa, Chairman of the Board for MRC said: “We are very pleased to have won this KOC contract with our partners Lewis & Lambert and we eagerly look forward to providing the best of our services in making this project a huge success. At MRC one of our main goals is to clean, develop and protect Kuwait ’s environment against pollution and this contract will help us take giant steps in that direction.”
