Schlumberger celebrates 50 years in Oman

Schlumberger has marked 50 years of operations in Oman at a ceremony and reception held in Muscat attended by oil and gas dignitaries and executives.
To celebrate the anniversary, Schlumberger released a commemorative book, Schlumberger in Oman: The First Fifty Years. Mohammed Awad, chairman of Schlumberger, Middle East and Asia, presented the first copy of the book to His Excellency Nasser Khamis Al Jashmi, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas, the Sultanate of Oman.
“When I think about the role Schlumberger has played in Oman, there are two things that come to mind. The first is people. I have a great respect for the dedication and profession alism of their staff, and for their diversity,” said His Excellency Nasser Khamis Al Jashmi. “One of the company’s guiding principles is Success Without Boundaries, which is evident in the success being achieved by the expatriate Omanis who are working for Schlumberger around the world.”
The commemorative book looks back at half a century of operations in Oman through the eyes of the original Schlumberger pioneers and maps the development of current operations.
“The development and growth of Schlumberger as a company has, in many ways, paralleled the development and growth of Oman as a nation. Both have achieved success based on hard work, diligence and determination,” said Said Al Adawi, general manager, Schlumberger, Oman. “During the coming years we will continue to invest in our employees, providing opportunities to Omani graduates and training them to perform to world standards.
“For the book, we gathered recollections from many early employees,” continued Al Adawi. “Together the stories offer a fascinating insight, not just of Schlumberger, but of the country as a whole and of its rapid progress over the last fifty years.”
The first Schlumberger wireline log in the Dhofar Concession, as it was then called, was run in December 1955 in Dauka-1. In April of the following year Schlumberger ran the first log in the Oman Concession in Fahud-1.
Today Schlumberger has two operational bases in Oman providing a comprehensive range of services and products with a workforce of approximately 1000, 80% of whom are Omani nationals.
“The Schlumberger strategy has always been to bring value to its Omani customers by offering the latest state-of-the-art technologies,” said Zaki Selim, president, Schlumberger Middle East & Asia. “These high-qu ality products and services have been delivered in a safe and environmentally friendly way by a committed and motivated work force. For example, Schlumberger together with our Omani customers has successfully introduced several new Wireline resistivity tools as the first commercial application worldwide.”
