On 17 January, John and Helen Taylor set off from London on an epic adventure by a car fuelled by a new Shell petrol formulation in an attempt to capture the first around-the-world Guinness world record for fuel efficiency.
This attempt was set to cover approximately 28,970 kilometres, across 25 countries, in 70 days in under 50 fill-ups of fuel – the ultimate road test for Shell’s new Fuel Economy formula fuel.
They have crossed deserts and mountains, they've experienced temperatures ranging from minus 15 C in Europe to plus 45 in Austr alia, and they have driven through torrential rain, floods, deep snow, ice and even a mini tornado in outback Austr alia.
Now they're returning to London with spectacular results.
The Taylors did not just achieve the goal, they have beaten it by a huge margin. They did it on just 24 fill-ups. That means they’ve averaged 52.3 miles per gallon or 22.2 kilometres per litre.
With this record, Shell says it is now ready to embark on Fuel Economy launches which will take place in different countries in the next two years.
