Three Saudi companies have just signed contracts with Saudi Aramco to build and operate 28 vessels for offshore operations.
Hadi Al-Hammam Group for Contracting, Trading and Maritime Agencies was commissioned to build and operate nine boats: two drilling-platform tugs and seven well-services boats.
Zamil Operations and Maintenance Co won nine contracts to build and operate nine drilling platform tugboats.
Al-Bakri International Energy Ltd. won contracts for 10 vessels: one drilling platform tug, four personnel transport vessels, two well-services boats and three tugboats.
One key requirement of the contracts is increasing Saudisation. The contracts begin with a minimum of 35 percent Saudisation, rising 5 percent annually until reaching 85 percent in the last year.
Amer A. Al-Sulaim, executive director of Industrial Services said: "Our current focus is on nation alising jobs, developing a fully Saudi workforce and providing them with the appropriate financial incentives to motivate excellence in their work."
He added: "I know that we are facing many challenges, especially with the increasing global demand for energy and the challenging role for Saudi Aramco as a reliable energy supplier. However, we will work as a team to overcome these challenges. All of Saudi Aramco's resources will be applied to support the local contractors and companies."
