A new camera system that sees new leak detection trace dye will be demonstrated for the first time at the OI06 Ocean Forum at the Great Yarmouth stand no. 364.
EV Offshore’s EVOL-SL60HT is a new subsea camera module, especially developed to detect highly dispersible red dyes used by specialists to identify possible leaks in wellheads, pipelines, platforms and gas storage facilities.
Show attendees will be able to view live demonstrations of the EVOL-SL60HT in a water tank.
The EVOL-SL60HT is the latest addition to EV Offshore’s growing family of subsea and downhole camera inspection systems. The new system illuminates the new trace dye, and retains all of the unique benefits of EV Offshore’s camera inspection systems, such as delivering high quality images, integrated lighting, coping with low light situations and very reliable operation.
Camera works in conjunction with new trace dye
A new environmentally friendly red trace dye that biodegrades rapidly has been developed by Romex to assist in detecting leaks. In order to visually detect this new red trace dye, EV Offshore has developed a new camera inspection system called the EVO-SL60HT.
Leak detection not possible with naked eye
The EVOL-SL60HT is designed to interact with the specific colour – or wavelength of light -- that the new red trace dye emits when it is released into the sea. The new system is fitted with integrated green LEDs that excite the dye, so there is no need for additional external lamps. The camera’s special optical filters optimize visible spectrum performance. “When the camera’s LEDs stimulate the dye, even the smallest trace of dye will be picked up and made visible by the EVOL-SL60HT’s special filters so you can see trace dye that you could never see with the naked eye. The results are really quite startling,” said David Clover, Operations Director of EV Offshore.
Field trials to be carried out in North Sea
The EVOL-SL60HT is about to complete a series of rigorous leak inspection field trials in the North Sea on behalf of a major operator. While operating, it is anticipated that the system will be used to detect leaks at depths to 1km. Following these field trials, EV Offshore will be carrying out leak detection operations in the North Sea for a number of operators.
Versatile EVOL-SL60HT Can Be Used at 1,000m Subsea
The new system is extremely versatile. The standard configuration of the camera can be used to carry out leak detection operations in depths up to 1km. Measuring just 2.3-inches (60mm) in diameter and five-inches (120mm) in length, it weighs only 1.1 lbs (500gm), making the EVOL-SL60HT compact and extremely lightweight.
