It will contribute to the availability of technicians and testing facilities in the aviation and petroleum industries, both of which are growing at an unprecedented rate in the Middle East .

“EADS and the State of Qatar have a long-lasting and trustful relationship. Our cooperation is materialized with the establishment of our Competence Centre. We are today very proud to invest in such a challenging project and to work hand in hand with our Qatari partners,” said Deviller.

Dr Roberts added: “We warmly welcome the EADS Competence Centre of Qatar. EADS is a world leader in aerospace technology. To set up a training and research centre in Qatar shows the growing importance of state-of-the art technology to our economy.”

The announcement follows a previous memorandum of understanding by EADS to establish a presence at Qatar Science & Technology Park . Since that point EADS has worked with Qatar ’s government, industry and universities to determine which of its technologies to bring to the country.

Opening in mid 2007, and located in Doha at Qatar Science & Technology Park , EADS QCC will include 1000 square meters of laboratories, training rooms and offices. The facility will include a radiography room and a magnetic test bench capable of inspecting pieces up to 500 kg.
