Qatar is to set up a $3 billion petrochemical plant with a South Korean company, Minister of Energy Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah told reporters after opening the three-day Gas Summit 2006.
He said the Korean firm had also been assigned to identify opportunities for other mega projects and conduct relevant feasibility studies.
On the sidelines of the conference, Al Attiyah said the $2 billion gas pipeline project between Qatar and Kuwait, first agreed in July 2000, is probably not now feasible.
He said Saudi Arabia's refusal to allow the pipeline to pass through its territorial waters was blocking the project.
