Exploration well Tayifah-1X drilled by RWE Dea in the Disouq area - onshore Nile Delta, Egypt was tested successfully with 48 degree API oil from the Qantara formation.
In a depth of around 3,400 metres the well control operations indicated clearly hydrocarbon influx. Due to high mud weights, applied to control the well, drilling was stopped and the zone of interest tested with a drill stem test assembly. Currently the collected data is analyzed and preparations to test another zone of interest above the Qantara formation are ongoing.
Tayifah-1X is the first exploration well that is drilled by RWE Dea in the Disouq concession. The Disouq area is the first onshore exploration concession signed with The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) in 2004. RWE Dea as contractor and operator has 100% participating interest in the concession covering 5,523 km2. Besides the ongoing well operations RWE Dea is in the process of acquiring 1,000 km2 3D seismic for exploration purposes to better understand the exploration area and define further drilling targets in the exploration block.
RWE Dea is the sole investor in the Disouq concession and active in Egypt since 32 years, where it is producing oil for more than twenty years. RWE Dea participates in another ten concessions, of which four are operated by the German upstream company.
The ongoing activities in the Nile Delta in which RWE Dea participates clearly show its commitment to generate further values in the country with the cooperation of EGAS and its other partners.
