Norsk Hydro has proved more than 1 billion barrels of crude at the Iranian Anaran field, said Hydro exploration executive Erik Finnstroem
He said Iran ’s Anaran block - particularly its Changeleh West well - would be one of the company's exploration highlights in 2006. Some of Hydro's executives claimed the discovery may be one of the largest in the world in the past few years.
Hydro has a 75 per cent stake in the exploration contract, with 25 per cent held by Lukoil. The two companies have an exclusive eight-month agreement to negotiate a buyback contract with the National Iranian Oil Company.
