Hundreds of youngsters collected an estimated one tonne of rubbish during a mammoth clean-up on Jumeirah Beach in Dubai , United Arab Emirates. The children, their parents and teachers, and officials from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), spent more than two hours combing a 3km stretch of sand for debris. The students who took part in the clean-up came from several schools, including Jumeirah English Speaking School and Rashid School for Boys.
Environmentalists are out in force at the moment, with two other major operations organised to get rid of litter. Yesterday, Emirates Environmental Group held a gathering on Khor Fakkan Corniche as part of the Clean-Up the World campaign.
