Statoil signed an Area of Mutual Interest (AMI) agreement with Chevron Norge, part of Chevron Upstream Europe for a long-term cooperation in exploring the Arctic Barents Sea.

Statoil said it has joined in its regional knowledge and long term experience in the Barents Sea with Chevron’s seismic imaging capability.

The two companies are jointly seeking new areas in Norway's 19th licensing round.

Tim Dodson, Statoil's Senior Vice President for Norwegian continental shelf exploration said: "We regard this cooperation as an exciting opportunity to further develop our technology for exploring and developing the Barents Sea."

Gary Luquette, President, Chevron Upstream Europe added: "We are delighted to join with a company such as Statoil that has proven capabilities in Arctic waters. This agreement is an exciting opportunity to position Chevron for growth in the region."
